Girl Spaces exist within both abstract and defined terms. They are places in which womxn can gather – or maybe escape alone to – and be safe and welcome. As a womxn, you may have many or maybe just one space you identify as your ‘Girl Space’. This Girl Space is one that celebrates art and it’s makers.
We would like to acknowledge this land that we celebrate is the traditional lands for Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today. Girl Space is an all womxn art collective that is inclusive and welcoming to all young artists while showcasing the best that these artists have to offer.
Girl Space provides artists with opportunities, mentorship, comradery and the chance to grow their following through their art, exhibitions and events. We have exhibited the works of dozens of artists, and we have thrown nearly 20 successful events since 2015- with many more to come!
We aim to support and welcome anyone who feels that they do not have a safe space within the arts community. Girl Space is run by Laura Gentgall and Hannah Southcombe. Laura is an artist and Registered Nurse from Adelaide who saw a gap in the Adelaide market for a space that wholly supported wmn artists and uplifted them. Hannah is a passionate human rights advocate and activist who has worked with many charities and non-profits to improve the lives and rights of wmn across the world and locally.
